a book review prevised, myself on harrison abbreviated

the poet in the poems (man outside of time) is a brother to sergei esenin--but i, today, need a medium to channel a strange ghost. what does he say to me? jim harrison is esenin's trueblue kithandkin, and a living man with an entourage of chihuahua crows. and in his poems, a voice between shoulder blades invoking a space between the wars, i find a certain comfort.

i was allowed to publish a review of harrison's newest book, in search of small gods, for the critical flame. that review is here.

my interpretations of esenin and gumilev lyrics are forthcoming in the spring AGNI, like birds on the wing. there is something in a poet wants a lesser language to conquer, and waits for it...

LETTERS TO ESENIN is a terrific packet of poems. harrison is a favorite writer of mine now going on some 20 years. haven't read his newest books in a while but i've damn worn out his collected non-fiction and his collected poems. seriously good shit. happy to see harrison, and esenin, haunt you too.
